An application is open for a Postdoc Fellowship within the project “iSQAPER - Interactive Soil Quality Assessment in Europe and China for Agricultural Productivity and Environmental Resilience”, funded by Community funds through Horizon 2020 (http://www.isqaper-project.eu/), ongoing at the Institute of Mediterranean Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (ICAAM) of the University of Évora, Portugal.

Admission Requirements:

The scholarship is directed at PhD holders with Curriculum Vitae combining:
a) Background education in Agronomy, Soil Sciences, Biology, Environmental Sciences or equivalent. Background education in Agronomy or Soil Sciences will be considered an advantage;
b) Scientific research experience in the area of Agricultural Sciences or Soil Science (minimum 5 years including PhD);
c) Publication of at least 3 scientific papers (in journals with peer review) related to the aforementioned research areas;
d) Relevant experience in research projects related to soils and/or agriculture. Experience on the impacts of agriculture on soil quality will be considered an advantage;
e) Knowledge of ArcGIS, at the basic user level, with emphasis on the production, treatment and interpretation of maps related to soil, agricultural practices, climatic data, etc., both in raster and vector formats;
f) Fluency in English: minimum B2 level for understanding, speaking and writing in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFRL (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/en/resources/european- Language-levels-cefr); Basic knowledge of Portuguese and/or Spanish (levels A1 to A2 of the CEFRL) will be an added value;
g) Basic knowledge of soil modelling: conceptual knowledge of the biogeochemical processes that occur in this system. Basic knowledge at the user level of soil models such as Hydrus, Century, RZWQM will be an added value;
h) Experience with experimental field work. Field work experience involving soil measurements will be considered an advantage;
i) Experience in the organization of demonstration/information events directed at farmers will be an added value.
Working place:
The work is to be carried out at the Crop Science Department of the University of Évora, Mitra campus (Lat: 38.5291472222222; Long: -8.016827777778), under the scientific supervision of Professor Gottlieb Basch.

Grant Duration:
The fellowship is awarded for an initial period of six (6) months and is expected to start on Sptember 2017, eventually renewable until the end of the project (April 2020).

Value for monthly allowance:
The monthly allowance will correspond to € 1495.00, based on the FCT’s stipends values (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en). Payments will be made monthly, via bank check or bank transfer.
